Suhweeet

OK. I'm, like, half jock. I'm not likely to walk around wearing a football jersey, but I do enjoy watching a good dramatic game now and again, especially if friends are in to it.

That said, I went to bed smiling, with visions of pissed-off Yankee fans dancing in my head.

Update: I don't know how long this will be up, but some might enjoy this "collector's item".

Wildfires

My first true California wildfire experience today!

Smoke from the Rumsey wildfire in Napa and Sonoma counties is blowing south into the bay area proper, causing the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning for air quality. People with respiratory problems are advised to stay indoors until the air clears.

The normally white, fluffy fog over the bay has acquired a lovely, LA-like brown hue.

Colorado River Headlands

Part of one of the most glorious days I have ever spent on public transportation. If you get the chance and are in no particular rush, take the train from Denver to Emeryville, CA.

Incredibles Really Are

On Saturday night, Pixar held a screening and wrap party for its (and Brad Bird's) latest movie, "The Incredibles". Even though we didn't work on it (I did just start six weeks ago), AX and I were invited to attend. What a phenomenal movie. When I got to Pixar, I intentionally kept myself in the dark about it so that I could see it in all its glory at the wrap party and I definitely made the right choice. I may be biased, but I truly believe that Pixar has another huge hit on its hands. You will hear "Dahling you got so fat" and you will laugh.

The thing that struck me the most about the evening, aside from Sunday morning's hangover, was how much joy and pride the entire company took in the film. There was genuine excitement from people who didn't work on it for the people who did. Warm, heartfelt congratulations were going around and when Steve Jobs, who is recovering from cancer and is keenly aware of the importance of family, thanked the families of Pixar employees for supporting us so that we can work in this crazy business, his thanks and feelings were sincere. I'm generally a pretty cynical bastahd, but I definitely felt the love.

I bet this guy already has his opening weekend planned out.

Obituary

My aunt passed away recently after a long battle with cancer. She was a wonderful woman and I will take many great memories with me for the rest of my days. My point in telling you all of this is that my uncle wrote an obituary asking those who loved her to do all they can to elect John Kerry. It's attracting some media attention across the country, especially now that some crank called my uncle and told him that "hopefully on the day that Bush gets elected she'll burn in hell!"

It's amazing to me how much anger and hatred is flying around over this election. Vote against Bush (for the candidate of your choice), so that idiots like that will have to stew in their own self pity and hostility.

Nuptial Bliss

Excuse for not posting #2: I just got back from a wonderful trip during which I got married to my beautiful, um, wife Athena. I'll be posting some more of my own, but there's a whole slew of nice pics that some of my friends took at KP's gallery.

The rings, pictured above, were made by Russ who works at the Gem Gallery, 2945 College Ave. in Berkeley. He did a phenomenal job, IMHO, so he gets the shameless plug.
